There is a moment, driving up the rocky switchback of Pecos Lane, when the trees part and you see it โ€” a green roof perched on the hillside, surrounded on all sides by aspen and pine, with the mountain crest rising behind it. That first glimpse of Crestview is the beginning of something. A few days here has a way of resetting something deep in you that you didn't know needed resetting.

The Setting

Crestview sits higher and more secluded than any other cabin on the property. It has its own world up there โ€” a private hillside clearing ringed by aspen trees, with the crest of the mountain visible from the deck. You are not looking at the forest. You are in it, above it, part of it.

Unlike some mountain cabins that advertise seclusion but deliver a parking lot view, Crestview delivers. You won't hear your neighbors. You won't see another cabin. What you will hear is wind through aspen leaves, the occasional call of a Steller's Blue Jay, and โ€” if you're quiet in the early morning โ€” the sound of the Pecos River drifting up from the meadow below.

Five Minutes to the Water

Step off the lower deck, walk through the meadow, and in five minutes you are standing at the edge of the Pecos River or Cowles Ponds โ€” one of the most heavily stocked trout fisheries in New Mexico. The Forest Service stocks Cowles Ponds weekly through summer, sometimes twice a week in July. Families with kids have told us they caught their first fish here. The kids' pond (ages 12 and under) has a five-fish limit and an almost unfair catch rate.

The Pecos River itself runs crystal clear and cold with snowmelt through the summer โ€” mountain-fed, uncrowded, and genuinely beautiful. Most guests can't believe how close it is. This is one of Crestview's quiet secrets: it is, by any measure, one of the best-positioned fishing cabins in Northern New Mexico.

The Double Decks

Crestview has two decks โ€” upper and lower โ€” and guests tend to gravitate between them depending on the time of day and the mood. The upper deck faces the mountain crest. In the morning, with coffee in hand, it is where you watch the light change across the ridgeline and realize you haven't checked your phone in two hours. The lower deck is where the fire pit lives, where evenings slow down around wood smoke and conversation that goes until midnight without anyone noticing.

In between: hammocks strung in the aspens, swing chairs on the deck, and enough outdoor living space that ten people can all find their own spot without stepping on each other.

The Cabin Itself

Crestview was fully remodeled โ€” not refreshed, not updated, but genuinely rebuilt โ€” and it shows. The kitchen is modern and fully stocked, designed for real cooking. Three full bathrooms mean no one is waiting in line in the morning. The wood-burning stove in the living room is the heart of the cabin on cool nights, and the firewood is provided โ€” already split, already stacked, ready to go.

It sleeps ten comfortably across three bedrooms, and the layout is thoughtful enough that families and friend groups alike can find a rhythm โ€” shared spaces that bring people together and enough room that everyone can also have their own moment of quiet.

The Movie Room โ€” A Deliberate Step Back in Time

The upstairs master suite has a secret. Beyond the bedroom, there is a sitting room we have turned into something rare in the age of streaming: a proper movie-watching experience, the way it used to feel. A nice television, a DVD player, and a handpicked library of 100 film titles โ€” comedies, classics, adventures, animated films the kids will love and the parents remember from their own childhoods.

No algorithm. No endless scrolling. Just pick a movie, pile onto the bed or the couch, and watch something together. Parents have told us this became one of their favorite parts of the stay โ€” sharing a film they hadn't seen in twenty years with their kids, who had never seen it at all. It sounds like a small thing. It isn't.

Coming soon: We're putting the finishing touches on the movie room this week โ€” photos arriving shortly. If you have a request for the library, send us a message through Airbnb. We take suggestions seriously.

Fast WiFi in the Wilderness

Crestview is secluded, but it is not off the grid โ€” not unless you want it to be. Starlink WiFi reaches the cabin with enough speed for video calls, streaming, and remote work days. Many guests come with the intention of fully unplugging. Many others need to stay a little bit connected. Crestview handles both gracefully. The wilderness and the wifi coexist here without apology.

Crestview Across the Seasons

๐ŸŒฟ Spring

The aspen trees bud out in the brightest green. The river runs full and fast with snowmelt, and the wildflowers in the meadow below the cabin are extraordinary in April and May. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, and almost no one else up here yet.

โ˜€๏ธ Summer

Long days and a green canopy overhead. Fishing at Cowles Ponds is at its peak through July. Hike the Panchuela caves in the morning, come back to the hammock after lunch, light the fire pit after dinner. The aspens provide shade that most mountain cabins can't offer.

๐Ÿ‚ Fall

This is Crestview at its most dramatic. The aspen trees surrounding the cabin turn gold โ€” not nearby, not visible from a distance, but right there, touching the deck rails, surrounding the hammocks. October at Crestview is something you won't find language for until you've seen it.

โ„๏ธ Winter

Snow on the green roof, the wood-burning stove running all day, the mountain crest white and still above the deck. Winter is the quietest season at Crestview and, for the right group, the most memorable. The world shrinks down to this hillside, this fire, these people.

A Perfect Stay at Crestview Looks Like This

You arrive up Pecos Lane in the late afternoon, the green roof appearing through the trees as you crest the hill. You unpack, walk the two decks, claim your hammock. Someone starts a fire in the wood-burning stove while someone else figures out dinner in the kitchen. The first evening is slow and easy โ€” the transition from wherever you came from to here.

Morning comes cool and bright. Coffee on the upper deck, the mountain crest catching the first light above the aspens. A walk down to Cowles Ponds before the day heats up โ€” the kids catch two fish before 9 AM. In the afternoon, the Panchuela Trail and its caves. Back in time for the fire pit, for the kind of conversation that only happens when phones are forgotten in a jacket pocket.

And then, after dinner, upstairs. The movie room. Someone picks a DVD from the library. The kids have never seen this one. You have not watched it in twenty years. The mountains outside are dark and full of stars.

That is a Crestview stay. We would love to have you.

"The place was fantastic, great location. We had an amazing time โ€” the cabin was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for a better host."
